The mission of Junior Achievement is economic education, K - 12.  The Sunshine State Standards as well as FCAT objectives are integral components of all JA curriculum.  Junior Achievement relieves the burden from the school systems in providing economic education across the state.  Furthermore, JA provides practical and hands-on curriculum taught by business and community role models. The Institute for Free Enterprise Education will pilot K -12 learning lab initiatives that have been partially implemented in both the Palm Beach County School system and the Pinellas County School system through Enterprise Village/Exchange City.  Both Enterprise Village and Exchange City are Elementary School programs.  The project for which funding is sought will incorporate Elementary (Enterprise Village), as well as Middle and High School economic education learning labs.

Project Description:

The Institute for Free Enterprise Education is dedicated to entrepreneurial and free enterprise education.  Created and managed by Junior Achievement, the Institute will provide practical, interactive and fully integrated learning experiences for Broward and South Palm Beach County students. The goal of the program is to help children of all ages develop an attitude of success, an understanding of the responsibilities of citizenship, and most importantly, a transformation of their values.

Junior Achievement's Institute for Free Enterprise Education (The Institute) will serve students of all ages, reaching children early in life, ensuring that their personal hopes and dreams are developed, nurtured and directed.  Specifically, at the elementary, middle, and high school level, The Institute will house the following core, experiential learning labs:

            Grade Level                                                Learning Lab

?          Elementary School  (  5th grade)                  Enterprise Village

?          Middle School         (  8th grade)                 Finance Park

?          High School            (11th grade)                  The JA Student Company

These unique programs have successful track records.  Enterprise Village and its sister program, Exchange City, are currently either operating or being developed in 22 other JA chapters in the United States.  The demand and support for these projects have been overwhelming in their respective cities.  Finance Park exists along with Enterprise Village in Pinellas County, Florida.  JA programs alone have produced hundreds of entrepreneurs, many well known local successes such as Ed Iacobucci, founder of Citrix.

All of these learning experiences vividly illustrate for students the connection between hard work and tangible success while teaching responsibility, leadership, decision-making and cooperation.

Junior Achievement's history and reputation is exemplary.  With 82-years of experience in free enterprise education, JA is considered an integral and fundamental tool to ensure students are successful and responsible participants in America's free enterprise system.  No other organization has ever taken up this cause with a comparable scope and impact, as each year JA serves over 4 million students worldwide. When Americans think of free enterprise education, they think of Junior Achievement.

Entrepreneurism is a matter of attitude; it is creative, not reactive.  Now, more than ever, our students need to create the future, not just respond to it-or lament it.  The Institute for Free Enterprise Education will transform attitudes and shape values that are both noble and necessary for our children's future?and for our country's future.
