Project Description:
State of Florida to join with Manatee County, City of Bradenton, and Federal government to address flood control problem around Wares Creek in central part of County. This project is to be performed in conjunction with and as a component of the greater Wares Creek Flood Control Project to remove excessive sedimentation occurring below mean high tide at the mouth of Wares Creek. These accumulated sediments impede flood flow creating upstream flooding.
Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
Estimated average annual flood damages within incorporated Manatee County and the City of Bradenton without the project are $6,700,000. Annual flood damages with the project are reduced to $2,860,000, yielding a federal benefit/cost ration of greater than 3.3:1, 2,684 structures are impacted during the 10-year storm event without the project with estimated damages exceeding $22 million.
