Project Description: |
Program provides energy conservation services to low income families. The State of Florida currently does not provide a stable adequate source of funding to support Florida Weatherization Program. The Petroleum Violation Escrow (PVE) Funds, the main funding source of Florida Weatherization Program is near depletion. Failure to secure another primary stable source of funding will mean a severe reduction of residential energy conservation services to low income citizens in Florida and there is the possibility that the State of Florida will have to discontinue the statewide Weatherization. |

Measurable Outcome Anticipated: |
The outcome of this project will reduce energy consumption for low income families and reduce energy cost for all Florida residents. However, a reduction in weatherization funding will result in the loss of home energy conservation and health and safety services to low income citizens. The loss of private sector jobs in energy conservation industry, higher energy bills for those citizens not receiving services, greater number of low income utility customers who cannot pay their utility bills and damage to the Weatherization Network. According to the 2000 census, there are over 5 million households in Florida who qualify for these services. Currently, every state in the union has a Weatherization Program. The elimination of Florida Weatherization Program will have a negative impact on Florida's economy by loss revenues to purchase building materials and supplies. |
