Project Description:

VisionQuest would convert 20 existing level 4 beds and 10 existing level 6 beds into 30 mental health specialty beds. These beds would be used to provide mental health care and custody for 30 young women who exhibit behaviors and symptoms in need of crisis intervention and stabilization and intensive mental health treatment. Conservatively 60% of the young women in the Junile Justice System either have met or would meet the diagnositc criteria for a mental health diagnosis. VisionWQuest believes that of those, the overwhelming majority are due to exposure to extreme stress (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder). Most often this disorder is discovered after a young woman has been placed in a tradiional DJJ placement facility. Staffing ratios must be more intensive in order to provide necessary effective treatment for the yong woman. Services that would be provided include: 1) Psychiatric 2) Medical 3) Individual and Group Therapy 4) Family 5) Intensive staffing and 6) Specific Trauma Treatment

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

120 young women in the Juvenile Justice System will receive needed intensive crisis intervention, mental health, and trauma treatment. 90% will have decreased suicidal ideation. 75% will avoid deeper penetration into the Juvenile Justice System.
