The project provides the potential for reducing loss of life and property by providing the fundamental elements needed to identify existing structures in floodprone areas, evaluation of the risk of flooding and establishing current finished floor elevation data needed to keep future structures out of (or at least above) floodplains. Using this process, floodplains can be identified, a risk assessment performed to identify affected properties and persons, and flood elevations periodically updated to reflect additional imprevious areas associated with subsequent permitted development activities, thereby mitigating future losses of life and property.

Project Description:
The general purpose of this project is to provide a comprehensive databank of floodprone properties with the necessary analysis and planning tools to support the overall Local Mitigation Strategy. The project is based on the current 2001 Flyover Project with additional enhancement directly related to the Local Mitigation Strategy. The results of this effort would assist in the identification and prioritzation of properties to be purchased as part of the locally funded Blueprint 2000 project.
Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
A. Estimated number of persons to benefit: The Leon County, City of Tallahassee community at large (240,000 people) B. Estimated Economic Loss: Several millions to several hundred million dollars, depending on the severity of a storm event. C. Project role before, during and after an emergency: Before: Identification and prioritization of flood prone areas, assist in directing allocation of emergency response materials and the acquistions of properties under Blueprint 2000 removes potentially dangerous situations and resources from harm's way. During: Assist in directing emergency resource allocation based on shifting variables of a disaster. After: Provides for the ongoing capture of Rapid Damage Assessment information.
