Project Description:

MCH has suffered structural damage and water intrusion, which has resulted in ongoing and continuos erosion to our main buikding.  The encapsulation of our facility will allow the hospital to remain viable through a level  IV storm as well as give us a sheltering capacity of 3,000. The main hospital building will be retrofitted by covering the existing "external insulation and finishing system" with a new outer shell which eill then qualify the facility as a special needs medical management facility sheltering chonically ill chidren.  this is the only viable option at this time as the retrofit would allow for work on the outside of the structure causing minimal disruption to patient care. The main building on our campus, constructed in 1986, in not able to withstand hurricane winds that exceed those of a level I storm. As it currently stands, the hospital's comprehensive emergency management plan calls for the complete evacuation of this buiding in a Category 2, or higher, huricane. Since approximately 70% of our patient beds are in the building that requires encapsulation, without it, our ability to shelter children transferred from costal hospitals as well as our own citically ill patients is in jeopardy.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

The encapsulation of our facility will allow the hospital to remain viable through a level IV storm as well as give us a shelterin capacity of 3,000.
