Ch. 2000-178 (C.S. for H.B. 607) Enacts and amends certain provisions relating to pretrial release; repeals specified rules of the Florida Rules of Criminal Procedure to the extent the rules are inconsistent. Effective June 2, 2000.
Ch. 2000-179 (H.B. 677) Requires a sentence for sexual battery or murder to be imposed consecutively to any other sentence for sexual battery or murder which arose out of a separate criminal episode or transaction; requires local jail custodians rather than sheriffs to make certain certifications to the Department of Corrections when delivering prisoners to the department. Effective October 1, 2000.
Ch. 2000-180 (H.B. 679) Authorizes the Department of Children and Family Services to continue providing foster care services to certain individuals; specifies additional circumstances for termination of services. Effective June 2, 2000.

Ch. 2000-184 (H.B. 937) Revises a provision on rights of law enforcement and correctional officers to provide that agencies may still discipline or pursue criminal charges against an officer; provides that an officer subject to a complaint may review all statements made by or on behalf of the complainant; provides a penalty for failure of an agency to comply with specified provisions relating to law enforcement and correctional officers. Ch. 2000-185 (C.S. for H.B.'s 1153 and 845) Reduces the maximum percentage of seats that may be located in a designated smoking area in a restaurant dining room; after specified date eliminates minimum size requirement for restaurants to be subject to the Clean Indoor Air Act. Effective October 1, 2000, except as otherwise provided.
Ch. 2000-186 (C.S. for H.B. 1439) Revises provisions relating to economic incentives for baseball spring training facilities. Effective June 2, 2000.
Ch. 2000-187 (H.B. 1481) Requires that certain criminal justice training schools and selection centers conduct criminal history background checks of applicants prior to the applicants' entrance into a basic recruit class; mandates that candidates pass a basic skills examination prior to entrance into the basic recruit training program. Effective January 1, 2001.
Ch. 2000-188 (C.S. for H.B. 1901) Enacts and amends provisions relating to procedures for the treatment and placement of abandoned newborn infants; provides a statute of repose for setting aside adoptions. Effective July 1, 2000.

Ch. 2000-194 (S.B. 150) Prohibits the possession, importation into the state, buying, selling, giving away, or killing of a dog or cat with the intent of selling or giving away its pelt; prohibits the possession of a dog or cat pelt with the intention of selling or giving it away; prohibits the sale of any dog or cat pelt or any clothing containing dog or cat pelts. Effective June 5, 2000.
