The Services Provided/Benefit to the State would include "determining the ongoing health effects in Florida residents of exposure to various toxic chemicals, which will be of potential use in devising medical monitoring and screening programs for early detection and treatment of disease in those affected. In addition, the results of these clinical and laboratory examinations will be of use in other communities in Florida with similar exposures and where residents may face similar health risks. The amount of toxic chemicals can be evaluation to determine effects on current population". |

Project Description: |
The monies will be used "to conduct specific medical and laboratory tests of residents of the Wingate neighborhood to determine the current level of arsenic, dioxins,and related compounds in their bodies; in addition, to conduct clinical examinations of the functioning of the residents' immune system, liver (including liver enzymes), and neurological system that may be related to their exposures to toxic chemicals. Conduct soil samples and perform underground water tests to check current levels of contamination. These tests may be conducted by physicians, nurses and clinical assistants and involve taking blood samples, conducting neurological examinations or administering standardized tests". |
