The Miami River dredging project will improve the shipping industry on the river creating more jobs and increasing international trade with Florida. Also the project will remove contaminated sediments that pollute the river and flow into Biscayne Bay, thereby improving the environment of the Bay and the River.

Project Description:
Dredging the Miami River will be completed by the Army Corps of Engineers as the project coordinator and the non-federal partner is Miami-Dade County. Dredging will remove contaminated sediments from the river and as part of this project the sediments will be transported to a class III landfill for disposal. The non-federal partner basically helps define the scope of the project with the Corps and must provide lands necessary for the conduct of the project and cost share funding. Funding cost share is federal-80%; non-federal sponsor-20%.
Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
Clean river with the federal channel fully maintained for depth and width. Clear river will stimulate economic development along the river and a maintained navigation channel will improve shipping commerce and international trade, creating new jobs.
