Job Title

Information Systems Engineer

General Summary

This is work engineering the selection, installation, performance, and maintenance of legislative information systems. An employee in a position allocated to this class will typically provide hardware and software configuration expertise in computers, networking, and host systems.
 

Examples of Work Performed

  • Manage, troubleshoot, monitor, and configure all Cisco devices: switches, routers, firewalls, Cisco ISE, Meraki hardware, VOIP and wireless controllers.
  • Architect, implement, and support multiple Microsoft-based infrastructure service technologies such as MS Exchange, SharePoint, SQL Server, Active Directory, IIS, File and Print.
  • Install, configure, maintain F5 appliance.
  • Install, configure, deploy, manage and maintain VMware virtualization infrastructure servers and associated software across an enterprise environment.
  • Install, configure and manage Microsoft Windows 2012/2016 Server systems.
  • Support and maintain Compellent SAN storage infrastructure.
  • Utilize monitoring and management systems for ensuring proactive server and system management.
  • Reviews and prepares project status reports.
  • Develops plans for testing and installing software.
  • Installs new software and maintains existing software.
  • Installs new hardware and maintains existing hardware.
  • Performs post implementation follow-up analysis and testing.
  • Maintains records on change control.
  • Evaluates software and hardware problems and recommends appropriate solutions.
  • Works with vendors on product enhancements.
  • Maintains awareness of new developments in information technology.
  • Initiates reviews of existing services, productivity aids, procedures; makes recommendations for improvements as warranted.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Switches, Firewalls, Routers and Wireless technologies.
  • Knowledge of standard networking protocols (DNS, DHCP, LDAP, SMTP, ICMP, NTP)
  • Knowledge of VMware ESXi/vSphere
  • Knowledge of Dell Servers
  • Knowledge of SAN technology
  • Knowledge of Active Directory, IIS and SharePoint.
  • Knowledge of files systems, disk partitioning, quotas, and data security
  • Knowledge of Windows Server administration; Windows 2012 or above
  • Knowledge of Microsoft desktop operating systems
  • Knowledge in one or more areas of information systems.
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of computer technology.
  • Knowledge of governmental procedures, legislative rules, and procedures.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret technical data.
  • Ability to think logically and solve problems.
  • Ability to evaluate and resolve user problems.
  • Ability to provide technical assistance in the areas of computer systems analysis, databases, and/or hardware.
  • Ability to communicate technical information verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to understand and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, management information systems, mathematics, or engineering and three years of progressively responsible information systems experience.

Progressively responsible information systems experience can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.

Any combination of progressively responsible information systems experience and post-secondary training in disciplines as described above totaling seven years.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to those with a CCNA or CCNP or MCITP.
