Project Description:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

This project supports the removal of rough fish, primarily shad, from basin lakes,including Lake Apopka.  The removal of gizzard shad is a cost-effective method of removing phosphorus.  Furthermore, removal of rough fish helps reduce algae and helps establish desirable vegetation.This technique can be applied to other highly eutrophic lakes in the Harris Chain of Lakeswith similar results. Concurrent zooplankton measurements should be done to document the reduced zooplankton.
