Project Description:
Writing teachers from grades K-12 attend invitational summer institutes at their regional writing project sites to examine their classroom practice, conduct research, and develop their own writing skills. These same teachers meet during the fall for renewal retreats and workshops. In the spring, project fellows often conduct spring conferences for teachers in their regions to showcase innovative and tested teaching strategies. They also attend state English and reading conferences as presenters to share their expertise with teachers throughout the state. During the school year, project-trained teachers provide professional development workshops for other teachers in their schools and communities. From this practice other programs develop.

Improvement of reading and writing scores in served areas, literacy improvement in low-performing schools.
