Project Description:
The Center for Marine Animal Health will develop the technologies for a Marine Veterinary Industry that will benefit aquaculture, marine attractions and wild marine animals. It will also train Veterinarians and technicians in the application of those technologies.
Services Provided/Benefit to State:
The focus of the research in the Center will be the biology of marine animals and their pathogeons, with the aim of developing rapid diagnostic procedures and environmentally safe treatments.
Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
Will benefit populations of wild animals, including dolphins, turtles and fish, where incidences of disease and mortalilty are increasing. The Center will also benefit commerce, tourism and the environment of Florida.
