Project Description:

The project is designed to track the development of young chidlren (ages 3-5), enrolled in pre-kindergarten and kindergarten in a public elementary school in Miami-Dade County. Both qualitative and quantitative data will be collected on aspects of academic, social, emotional and physical development. Based upon a thorough analysis of this data, training programs will be designed to address weaknesses disclosed.  Classroom teachers along with undergraduate early childhood majors, will receive training in effective techniques and strategies and implement these under the guidance of the principal investigator.

Services Provided/Benefit to State:

The services to be provided under this study include the tracking, training and evaluation aspects of the study. The benefit of the study would be in the form of cutting edge knowledge on effective strategies in major developmental areas of child development. Childhood teacher training and development would be significantly enhanced through on site, hands on training for both in service practitioners and preservice students.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

It is anticipated that the outcomes of the project would be measured by standardized tests, such as the Metropolitan Readiness Test, as well as other appropriate instruments such as the scales of physical and social development
