Project Description: |
Lakeside Alternatives, a comprehensive non-profit community mental health center in Orange County, serves approximately 11,000 children and adults with severe and persistent mental disabilities who have little or no resources to pay for their mental health care. This project will fund facility renovations in 4 programs which provide services for mental health and foster care clients. These services are funded by contracts with the Department of Children and Families. These specific programs are: *** RESIDENTIAL HOUSING: Lakeside Alternatives, Inc. owns 16 buildings which house 53 clients in our transitional housing program. These buildings have not had a major upgrade nor renovation in 15 years. The estimated cost to totally renovate the approximate 24,280 sq. ft. of residential space is $400,000. *** WINTER PARK PLAZA: This building is primarily used for outpatient client services and administrative offices. The roof is leaking and has not been replaced since it was built in 1970. The cost for replacing the roof on this 32,000 sq.ft. facility is $90,000. *** CHILD FOSTER CARE TEMPORARY SHELTER: The buildout of 10,000 sq.ft. of open unoccupied space to house a temporpary shelter for foster children will cost approximately $350,000. The purpose of the Alternative House at Lakeside Alternatives, Inc. is to provide emergency housing to children between the ages of 5 and 12. These children have been removed from their homes by the State due to abuse or neglect by their parents or caretakers. Alternative House provides room and board for up to 30 children. These children attend local schools and participate in weekend outings. While this program is primarily housing, children with mental health needs are treated through Lakeside Alternatives Outpatient Program and Medication Clinic. Children remain at Alternative House as long as necessary until a permanent placement can be found by the State. The goal of the program is to provide a safe, supportive, and home-like environment for these children until they can return to their own homes or an alternative more appropriate placement. *** CAFETERIA AND KITCHEN: The current cafeteria and kitchen are in desperate need of expansion to accommodate serving increasing cases (in patient and out patient) at the Lakeside main campus in Eatonville, Florida. The estimated cost of this project is $350,000. |

Measurable Outcome Anticipated: |
We anticipate improved quality facilities which any citizen of Florida would be satisfied with if they or their family needed services at these facilities. Also, the request with help assures that Joint Commission of Accredited Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and The Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) licensure is continued, with no serious life safety issues noted and that all State program outcome measures are satisfactorily adhered to. |
